Now if you don’t have a jam-along track or don’t know how to find such a thing then the alternative is just to find a ordinary CD of the song that you are trying to learn and use it. Of course you will have to play over the guitar track so it isn’t completely like being in the band but it still helps you learn to keep time and rhythm and it is much more compelling than just trying to practice the song on your own.

The next helpful advice is to make sure you are always playing something unique in your practice times rather than sticking to a song for an entire week. Working on the same song or guitar riff will cause you to get exhausted and burned out. A better idea is to take a lot of breaks and always alternate between several songs or riffs that you are working on. In this way you will be able to better commit the concepts to memory while also staying motivated to continue to learn.
