Interesting Ways to Learn How to Play Guitar
Posted Under: Guitar Playing Techniques
A major barrier that all musicians run into when attempting to learn the guitar is lack of incentive. This is often due to getting bored in rehearsal times or just giving up when the newness of learning how to play guitar wears off. If you are one of those that thinks you won’t succeed when learning to play guitar then there is still time to alter that. In this brief article, I hope to show you a few brief and helpful tips to make your practice times much more entertaining and enjoyable.
The first way to keep practice times more fun is to practice music that is more appealing. I know you may have an instructor that wants you to practice scales all the time but if you actually want to learn and master guitar then you should to work on some things that you are interested in as well. Be wary because if you don’t understand this when you begin learning then you will hastily lose your passion for learning to play guitar.
The next way to make your practice times better is to practice with a band. Now, most beginning guitarists don’t have a band to practice with, so that is where jam-along tracks come in. So what is a jam-along track? It’s a song with the guitar part removed so it is like you are playing along with the band. Now if you don’t have a jam-along track or don’t know how to find such a thing then the alternative is just to find a ordinary CD of the song that you are trying to learn and use it. Of course you will have to play over the guitar track so it isn’t completely like being in the band but it still helps you learn to keep time and rhythm and it is much more compelling than just trying to practice the song on your own.
The next helpful advice is to make sure you are always playing something unique in your practice times rather than sticking to a song for an entire week. Working on the same song or guitar riff will cause you to get exhausted and burned out. A better idea is to take a lot of breaks and always alternate between several songs or riffs that you are working on. In this way you will be able to better commit the concepts to memory while also staying motivated to continue to learn.
If you follow these simple steps then you will be well on your way to learning how to play guitar in no time at all. It really isn’t as tricky as it looks if you merely put in a consistant rehearsal time and take it one step at a time. I wish you luck in all that you do as a musican and make sure to take time to enjoy your trip as you learn and master guitar.
