If you believe you are setting yourself up to not succeed when learning guitar, there is still hope. Here are a few useful tips to assist you make your practice times more interesting and enjoyable.
The first tip is pretty obvious but a lot of new guitarists fail to remember it. If you want to keep your practice times energetic then work on something that is appealing to you. I know you may have an teacher that wants you to practice scales all the time but if you really want to learn and master guitar then you need to work on some things that you are interested in as well. Be wary because if you don’t understand this when you begin learning then you will speedily lose your passion for learning to play guitar.
The next way to make your practice times superior is to practice with a band. Of course, most new guitarists don’t have a band that they can rehearse with. That is where jam-along tracks come in. A jam-along track is a song that has the guitar part removed so that you can easily play along with the band and learn the part while keeping rhythm with a real band. Jam-along tracks can be found in many places but if you don’t have one or can’t find one with the actual song you are looking for then there is an alternative. The next best thing is to just use a regular CD and play long with the band. Of course you will have to play over the guitar track so it isn’t quite like being in the band but it still helps you learn to keep time and rhythm and it is a lot more enjoyable than just trying to practice the song on your own.
Make sure that you continually mix up what you are rehearsing on and not stick to the same song for a week. Working on the same song or guitar riff will cause you to get weary and burned out. A better suggestion is to take a lot of breaks and always alternate between multiple songs or riffs that you are working on. By doing this you will easily be able to remember the concepts and still remain motivated enough to continue learning.
If you follow these straightforward steps then you will be well on your way to learning how to play guitar in no time at all. It really isn’t as tough as it looks if you merely put in a consistant rehearsal time and take it one step at a time. I wish you luck in all that you do as a musican and make sure to take time to enjoy your trip as you learn and master guitar.
